A DIY Christmas gift: a layered candle from candle sand

Velvet Burgundy candle sand burning next to its kraft bag

A handmade gift does not have to take a weekend. With candle sand you pour a layered candle into a glass in a few minutes, and the person who gets it can top it up and light it again all winter. Or you give the sand itself as a set, and the pouring becomes part of the gift.

Two ways to give it

  • As a finished candle. Pour the layers into a nice glass, push in the wick and wrap the glass. Add the rest of the bags so the candle can be refilled.
  • As a set to pour together. Give three or four colours that go well together, with the wick. Pouring the layers is fun with children and with friends at a Christmas evening.

Colour ideas for Christmas

  • Christmas Table: N° 04 Velvet Burgundy, N° 03 Champagne Gold, N° 02 Pearl Snow, N° 01 Pure White. Classic and festive.
  • Nordic Winter: N° 07 Glacier Blue, N° 02 Pearl Snow, N° 01 Pure White. Cool and quiet, like snow outside.
  • Midnight Gold: N° 02 Pearl Snow, N° 03 Champagne Gold, N° 08 Obsidian. Dark and elegant, for an evening table.
  • Soft Pastel: N° 07 Glacier Blue, N° 06 Lavender Haze, N° 05 Rose Quartz. Gentle, and children love it.

How to pour a layered candle

  1. Take a clear, heat-resistant glass at least 5 cm deep.
  2. Pour the first colour with a spoon and level it.
  3. Pour the next colours gently on top, one by one.
  4. Cut 4 cm of wick and push it in so that about 1 cm sticks out.

More details and safety tips are in our guide How to make a candle with candle sand.
