Concrete Candles

Concrete candles are scented candles poured straight into small vessels cast by hand from concrete. The concrete holds the wax while the candle burns and stays as a decoration once the candle has burned down.

For autumn and Halloween we have concrete pumpkins in orange, graphite, white and brown: a pumpkin with a lid, a set of four, and small jack-o'-lanterns sold one by one, so you can mix your own colours.

What they are made of

The vessels are cast by hand from concrete. The candles are paraffin wax with a light autumn scent, poured directly into the vessel. Because every piece is cast by hand, the shade, small pores and air bubbles differ from piece to piece. This is a natural feature of concrete, not a defect.

How to burn and care for them

Burn the candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from draughts, curtains and decorations, and never leave it unattended. Trim the wick to about 5 mm before lighting and burn it for no more than 4 hours at a time. The concrete gets hot, so do not move the vessel until it has cooled. Keep the lid off while the candle burns.

Concrete is porous: wipe it with a dry, soft cloth and do not put it in the dishwasher. When about 1 cm of wax remains, stop burning the candle, let it cool and remove the rest with a wooden stick. The pumpkin with a lid then keeps small things.

From a candle manufacture since 1995

DCandles is a family candle manufacture founded in 1995, known for beeswax and church candles and coloured candles. Concrete candles are part of our seasonal home range and ship from our warehouse in Poland.

Questions about concrete candles

What is a concrete candle?

A scented candle poured straight into a vessel cast from concrete. The concrete holds the melted wax while the candle burns and stays as a decoration afterwards.

What wax are the candles made of?

Paraffin wax with a light autumn scent, poured directly into the concrete vessel.

How long does a concrete candle burn?

The pumpkin with a lid burns for about 10 hours, the small jack-o'-lantern for about 6 hours. Burn the candle for no more than 4 hours at a time.

Does the concrete get hot?

Yes. The vessel warms up while the candle burns. Keep it on a heat-resistant surface and move it only after it has cooled.

What can I do with the pumpkin after the candle has burned down?

Remove the remaining wax with a wooden stick once it has cooled. The pumpkin with a lid then works as a lidded pot for small things.

Does light shine through the jack-o'-lantern's face?

No. The face is embossed in the concrete, not cut through, and the flame burns at the top.

Why does my pumpkin look different from the photo?

Each vessel is cast by hand, so the shade, small pores and air bubbles vary from piece to piece. This is a natural feature of concrete, not a defect.
